Do you take sign-ups for webinars, events or workshops with Ninja Forms, and want to keep the “I’m coming” list separate from the “keep emailing me” list?
When someone registers for an event, they expect a confirmation and a reminder. Whether they want your emails after the event is a different decision, and it should be theirs. FuseWP lets you ask with a Ninja Forms checkbox, then only adds the people who tick it to your email marketing software or CRM.
FuseWP doesn’t place a checkbox into Ninja Forms. You add a checkbox field to your form, then map it to Opt-in Consent in FuseWP. This is free. If you haven’t set up a Ninja Forms sync rule before, see how to sync Ninja Forms with your email marketing software.
Choosing the Right Ninja Forms Field
Ninja Forms gives you two checkbox options:
- Single Checkbox: one box with its own label. This is the best fit for consent.
- Checkbox List: several options in one field. If you use it, any ticked option counts as consent, so keep it to one option.
Add a Single Checkbox to your registration form, give it a clear label such as “After the event, send me tips and invites by email”, and leave it optional and unticked by default.
Give the field a label even if you plan to hide it. FuseWP lists Ninja Forms fields by their label; a field without one shows up by its type, such as “Checkbox Field”, which is harder to spot when a form has several.
Your event form now asks the question just above the register button:

Mapping the Field in FuseWP
Go to FuseWP >> User Sync and open the rule for your event form, or add a new one with the form as the Source.
- In the destination, select After Form Submission, then your integration and the marketing list.
- Under Map Custom Fields, map the form’s email field to Lead Email Address.
- Click Map Another Field. In the Data column, choose your Single Checkbox.
- In the right-hand column, choose Opt-in Consent, the option listed right after Lead Email Address.
- Click Save.

After saving, registrants who tick the box are synced to your list and FuseWP records their consent. Registrants who leave it unticked are skipped. Their registration is still submitted and your Ninja Forms emails still go out. The Opt-in Consent mapping isn’t sent to your email platform; FuseWP only uses it to decide whether to sync.
Before your event goes live, send one test registration with the box ticked and one without, and check that only the first reaches your list.
Example: Attendees and Subscribers in One Rule
If you also want every registrant on an attendee list for event reminders, add a second destination to the same rule with + Add Destination:
- Destination 1: your “Webinar attendees” list, with no Opt-in Consent mapping, so everyone is added.
- Destination 2: your newsletter list, with the Single Checkbox mapped to Opt-in Consent.
The consent check only applies to the destination where you mapped it. Use the attendee list for event messages only, unless your privacy policy says otherwise.
How FuseWP Reads the Checkbox
FuseWP counts a value as “not ticked” when it’s empty or one of 0, n, no, false or off. Anything else counts as consent. This is why a checkbox is the safe choice. A radio button or dropdown with a “No, thanks” option sends a value, so it would be read as yes. If your form must use one, a developer can change the check with the fusewp_optin_form_consent_is_given filter.
Optional: Require Consent for Every Ninja Forms Rule
Your mapping already works. Selecting Ninja Forms in the settings only matters if you want consent required for all Ninja Forms rules, including ones you haven’t mapped.
Go to FuseWP >> Settings >> General, scroll to Opt-in Checkbox, and in Require Opt-in Consent For select Ninja Forms under the Forms: map a form field to “Opt-in Consent” group. Click Save Changes.

From then on, Ninja Forms rules without an Opt-in Consent mapping only sync people who have opted in somewhere else on your site, such as at checkout or on a registration form. Mapped rules keep using their checkbox.
A Few More Details
- One tick, whole site. A registrant who ticks the box is treated as opted in by your other integrations that require consent.
- Past registrations. FuseWP can bulk sync stored Ninja Forms submissions. Rules that map Opt-in Consent apply the same check to them, so only past registrants who ticked the box are added.
- The consent record keeps the email address, where they opted in and the date. The IP address isn’t stored for form entries.
Conclusion
With a Single Checkbox and one mapping, your Ninja Forms event registrations work for everyone while your marketing list only gains people who chose to stay in touch. For details on consent records, GDPR exports and erasure, see Existing Contacts, Privacy & FAQ.
