Do you run order forms, paid sign-ups or registrations in Gravity Forms, and want only the people who said “yes, email me” to land on your marketing list?
Gravity Forms often does more than collect messages. A single form might take a payment, create a WordPress account, and capture a lead. FuseWP can sync each of those moments to your email marketing software or CRM, and with an opt-in checkbox, you decide which ones should wait for the person’s consent.
Gravity Forms already has checkbox fields, so FuseWP doesn’t add one. You add a checkbox to your form and map it to Opt-in Consent in your FuseWP sync rule. The mapping itself is free. New to syncing Gravity Forms? Read how to sync Gravity Forms with your email marketing software first.
Add a Checkbox to Your Gravity Form
In the Gravity Forms editor, add a Checkboxes field with one choice, such as “Yes, send me tips and offers by email”. Leave it optional and unticked.
Gravity Forms lists each choice of a checkbox field as its own input. FuseWP shows those inputs individually in the mapping list, as the field label followed by the choice, for example, Marketing: Yes, send me tips and offers by email. With a single choice, you can only pick one. When ticked, the entry holds that choice’s value; when unticked, it’s empty.
Using the Gravity Forms Consent field? It also appears as several inputs in FuseWP’s list, because Gravity Forms saves the checkbox, its text, and its description separately. Pick the input for the checkbox itself. The text and description inputs hold words rather than a tick, so mapping one of them could count people as opted in who never ticked the box. Also leave the field optional; a required box isn’t a free choice.
Here’s what visitors see at the end of the form:

Map the Checkbox in Your Sync Rule
Go to FuseWP >> User Sync and open your form’s rule, or add one with the form as the Source.
- In a destination, pick the event, your integration and your list. After Form Submission is the usual choice.
- Under Map Custom Fields, map your email field to Lead Email Address.
- Click Map Another Field, select the checkbox input in the Data column, and choose Opt-in Consent on the right. It’s listed straight after Lead Email Address.
- Click Save.

Entries with the box ticked are synced and FuseWP records the person’s consent. Entries without it are skipped. The Opt-in Consent mapping is never sent to your email platform as a field.
Payments and Registrations: Consent Is Set Per Destination
Besides After Form Submission, FuseWP Pro adds three more events to Gravity Forms rules:
- After Successful Payment
- After Payment Refund
- After User Registration, for forms using the Gravity Forms User Registration add-on
Each destination in a rule has its own field mapping, and the consent check only applies to destinations where you mapped Opt-in Consent. So if a rule has an After Successful Payment destination and an After User Registration destination, map the checkbox in both if both should wait for consent.
This also gives you control. For example, a paid workshop form could add every buyer to a “Workshop attendees” list after payment, with no consent mapping, while a second destination adds them to your newsletter only if they ticked the box. Keep the attendee list for messages your privacy policy allows without marketing consent.
The same goes for a refund destination: if you map Opt-in Consent there, a refund for someone who didn’t tick the box won’t be synced.
Gravity Forms – Subscription Payments is a different FuseWP source. It has no Opt-in Consent mapping and uses consent given elsewhere on your site instead. See opt-in consent for plugins without a signup form.
Spam Entries Are Ignored
FuseWP doesn’t sync Gravity Forms entries marked as spam, so a ticked box on a spam entry won’t add anyone to your list or create a consent record.
Optional: Require Consent for All Gravity Forms Rules
Your mapping works without touching the settings. If you’d also like a safety net for rules you haven’t mapped, go to FuseWP >> Settings >> General, find the Opt-in Checkbox section, and select Gravity Forms under Forms: map a form field to “Opt-in Consent” in Require Opt-in Consent For. Then click Save Changes.

Rules with the mapping carry on as before. Rules without it now only sync people who already opted in somewhere else on your site, for example at a WooCommerce checkout or on a registration form.
What Counts as Ticked
FuseWP reads an empty value and the values 0, n, no, false, and off as “not ticked”. Anything else is consent. That suits checkboxes, but a radio button or dropdown with a “No, thanks” option would be read as yes. Stick to a checkbox, or ask a developer to customize the check with the fusewp_optin_form_consent_is_given filter.
A ticked entry also counts as consent everywhere else on your site. The consent record stores the email, the source, and the date; the IP address isn’t stored for form entries.
Conclusion
Because consent is checked per destination, one Gravity Form can handle payments and registrations for everyone, while your marketing list grows only with people who opted in. For consent records and GDPR tools, see Existing Contacts, Privacy & FAQ.
